  7. horticulture, petroleum history governed in
  8. the Middle Ages by provincial nobles and by
  9. bishops of Utrecht, Drenthe was eventually
  10. acquired by Charles V of Spain in 1536. It
  11. developed following land drainage initiated
  12. in the mid-18th century and was established
  13. as a separate province of the Netherlands in
  14. 1796.
